Looking at this site reminded me of all those street names, reminders of the early inhabitants of Brooklyn. Some no longer exist. I lived on Stanhope Street which at one time was named for a Huguenot family. (I've forgotten which one)

Sadly, New York has't seen fit to honor its first inhabitants. There are commemorative days for every ethnic group but the Dutch and French are forgotten.

What a great site. ive been doing research on the verschuer family of Bushwick whom i am a decendant of. The name has since become Fisher when the family left Bushwick and moved to Middlesex Co NJ. Anyone else interested in the Verschuer line can find more information in Somerset co.,NJ. Hendrick Fishers(Verschuer) house is the oldest house in Somerset Co.,NJ

Hi
I am a NYS/Dutch Colonial researcher for 25 years, I need a very official, specific answer to this question:
There are numerous versions of transcribed/translated Dutch Records in New York, many (most) originals were lost in the NYS library fire in 1912. Does anyone have an "most" original source for the "SDominie Seleyn's records 1686" of New York City? I have found different locations for same people
This websited (and others) place "Styntje Paulus" on Heerengracht oost zyde, publications of the Holland SOciety (and others) place her in the Dominie's poor house. Holland society also gives her a member # "314" this # does not appear on this site. ANy suggestions how to confirm Styntje's real residence? (Further documentation is inconclusive as to her status other than being widow) Thanks (please notify my e-mail with answers?)

Hello...I am with the Friends of Historic New Utrecht a preservation group. We are currently restoring the New Utrecht Dutch Reformed Church and cemetery. I enjoyed browsing through your many links. Unfortunately we lost our President Robert Buonvino last year. We continue to have many events such as Liberty weekend with Civil War re-enactors and school tours. I believe we can be of help to each other. I am planning a meet and greet with my Brooklyn Genealogy list at our Parish house in late Spring. Look forward to keeping in touch with you. Our office number is 718-256-7173.

Wonderful information!

Elias Dawes(Daws/Daas)was my 8th great grandfather. His daughter, Rebecca, married Thomas Gandy, Sr. in 1694 and moved to Cape May, NJ. I further descend through Thomas Gandy, Jr. and his daughter, Phoebe Gandy Casto.

Trying to find the name of Mrs. Thomas Gandy, Jr. (probably married in 1717) in Cape May. She is my mtdna brick wall.

I've been trying to trace my WALDRON ancestry back to colonial times in New York. Your site is a treasure trove of NY Dutch information! I haven't hit paydirt yet, but your site will at least help me narrow down my search.
Thank you for your efforts!
